Scientific papers of medicinal mushrooms research
Modern research of medicinal mushrooms start in the 1950s. According to a leading scientist for this research area and the chief editor of the scientific journal International Journal of Medicinal Mushrooms, academician S. P. Wasser, medicinal effects of about 700 species of higher fungi was established – spanning over 50,000 published scientific papers, more than 400 clinical studies and over 15,000 patents. The study of medicinal mushrooms is actually just starting – according to the best estimates, using the average research speed in the last 10 years it will take about 4,000 years until we get a complete picture of the potential of using medicinal mushrooms in medicine.
